Published in Philadelphia in 1816 by B. & T. Kite, Johnson & Warner.

Two-volume set. 8vo. (5.5" x 8.75"). Bound in full dark brown calf with gilt decoration and a single leather spine label.

Both volumes show significant age and use. The tops of the spines are torn, with smaller tears at the bottoms, along with rubbing and fading to the spines. Corners and edges of the boards are rubbed. Previous-owner markings appear on the pastedowns and first free endpapers, with waterstaining to the endpapers. The first 17 pages are slightly dog-eared, and foxing is present to varying degrees throughout.

Volume I has additional spine damage and has been restitched. A small bookplate belonging to previous owner Dolooney is present on the pastedown. Heavy staining occurs from pages 468–531, extending to the rear endpapers and pastedown; the final rear endpaper is adhered to the rear pastedown.

An interesting early 19th-century surgical reference set, reflecting the state of surgical knowledge and practice in the period and particularly suited to collections focused on the history of surgery and medicine.
