A lifetime's collection of rare books, fore-edge paintings and fine bindings, sold in person from the shelves of City Antiques in Historic Roswell, Georgia — and now, book by book, online.
The collection
The shelves hold several thousand volumes, most of them printed before 1900: English and American literature in fine leather, illustrated and colour-plate books, natural history, Americana, religion and theology, and one of the larger holdings of fore-edge paintings offered by a single bookseller in the American South. The catalogue on this site is a growing selection; the shop holds far more.
How we describe books
Every book is photographed in the shop in its own light. Descriptions state edition, binding, collation where it has been completed, and every defect, repair or replacement we are aware of, following the Code of Usages and Customs of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. Prices are stated in the open, in US dollars. Where a written condition report has not yet been prepared, the record says so, and one is supplied on request before any sale.
