"The Prince De Ligne. His Memoirs, Letters, and Miscellaneous Papers" (2 Volumes) by Katherine Precot Wormeley, published in Boston by Hardy, Pratt & Company in 1899. This is the Versailles Aquarelle Edition, limited to eighty-five numbered sets, of which this is No. 15.
The set presents the memoirs, correspondence, and miscellaneous writings of Prince Charles-Joseph de Ligne, the renowned Belgian military officer and man of letters, whose correspondence included figures such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Voltaire and whose writings contributed to Belgian literary history.
Both 8vo volumes are handsomely bound in half red leather with generous leather corners over marbled boards, with a single gilt rule to the leather edges. The spines have five gilt-decorated raised bands, gilt titles in the second compartments, gilt volume numbers in the fourth, and centered gilt devices in the remaining compartments. Marbled endpapers, gilt top edges, and deckled side edges complete the bindings. Multiple pages remain uncut, and the extremities show only slight rubbing. A beautifully produced, limited numbered set with an especially attractive period binding.
