"The Alhambra" by Washington Irving, Author’s Revised Edition, Darro Edition, published in 1894 by G. P. Putnam’s Sons in New York and London. Inspired by Irving’s time at the famed Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain, this celebrated work blends historical accounts, romantic legends, local traditions, and vivid descriptions of Moorish architecture and Spanish culture.

Octavo (6" x 9"). Two volumes, complete. Bound in full cream cloth with an elegant arabesque design in light green, navy, and gilt framing the beveled upper boards. The spines are similarly decorated with gilt lettering. The set features gilt top edges, rough-cut remaining edges, and decorative red-and-gilt borders throughout the title and text pages. Illustrated with 31 photogravures.

The original dust jackets are absent. The bindings show edgewear, bumped and rubbed corners, and soiling to the boards. The spines are lightly sun-darkened, with two small blue pen marks centered on the spine of Volume I. A bookplate appears on the front pastedown. A few pages have finger smudges in the fore-edge margins, and small spots of foxing appear on the first and last few leaves of each volume.

An attractive decorative edition of Irving’s evocative portrait of the Alhambra and its legends, ideal for collectors of classic American literature, Spanish history, Moorish architecture, and illustrated antiquarian books.
