"The Journal of George Fox: Travels, Sufferings, Christian Experiences and Labour of Love in the Work of the Ministry of That Ancient, Eminent and Faithful Servant of Jesus Christ, George Fox; Who Departed This Life in Great Peace with The Lord, the 13th of The 11th Month, 1690" by George Fox, published in London in 1694 by Thomas Northcott. This important early Quaker work recounts Fox’s religious journey, ministry, hardships, and spiritual experiences. The volume includes a substantial preface by William Penn and the testimony of Margaret Fox, offering valuable insight into the origins and development of the Quaker movement in seventeenth-century England.

Folio (7.5" x 12"). Volume I only, from a multi-volume set. Bound in full brown diced leather, rebacked in matching leather using the original spine, with repairs to the spine ends, joints, and corners. The original boards have been repaired, and both brass clasps remain present at the fore-edge. The spine features five raised bands, gilt lettering in the second compartment, and “London 1694” in gilt at the foot. Endpapers have been refreshed, with the original flyleaves retained.

The leather shows craquelure, scuffing, and rubbing. The text exhibits toning, marginal staining across much of the volume, and intermittent foxing. Lengthy pencil annotations appear in the margin of page 309. The pagination contains apparent printing errors, though the catchwords correctly correspond to the following pages.

A substantial and handsome seventeenth-century religious volume, well suited to collectors of early Quaker literature, William Penn, Christian history, and antiquarian theology.
