Folio (10.25" x 15.75") 1754. London: Thomas Baskett. Period calf in a Cambridge Style binding. Spine divided into seven compartments by six raised bands. Two-tone framed Cambridge style, with blind stamped boards. Edgewear, corners bumped and rubbed with small loss (see pic). Boards and spine show wear; scrapes, scuffs, and rubbing with old loss of 1.5" semi-circular piece of leather to upper front (see pic). Head and foot of spine chipped, with some loss. Hinges tender with splitting to joints (see pic). Prior owners name/date to top of title page. Fore-edges of first few pages with small chips and closed tears. Title page in black and red with engraved coat of arms. Beautiful engraved half title page. Random red ink stains toward front of book on several pages (see pic). Marginalia, some in-text, manuscript prayers tipped in (see pic).

From Wiki: The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) is the name given to a number of related prayer books used in the Anglican Communion and by other Christian churches historically related to Anglicanism. The first prayer book, published in 1549 in the reign of King Edward VI of England, was a product of the English Reformation following the break with Rome. The work of 1549 was the first prayer book to include the complete forms of service for daily and Sunday worship in English. It contained Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, the Litany, and Holy Communion and also the occasional services in full: the orders for Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, "prayers to be said with the sick", and a funeral service. It also set out in full the "propers" (that is the parts of the service which varied week by week or, at times, daily throughout the Church's Year): the introits, collects, and epistle and gospel readings for the Sunday service of Holy Communion. Old Testament and New Testament readings for daily prayer were specified in tabular format as were the Psalms and canticles, mostly biblical, that were provided to be said or sung between the readings.
