Spine with four gilt decorated raised bands, gilt publisher/title to double gilt rule bordered second compartment, gilt vol# to double gilt rule bordered fourth compartment, fancy gilt rule to head and foot of spine. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Edgewear, corners rubbed with some loss, lightening of fabric in some spots, leather with minor scuffs toward board edges, rear cover leather with some color lacking due to scuffs. 380 pgs, 36 full page engravings from steel, 4 full page illustrations from wood, articles on painting, history, sculpture, and more. Intermittent foxing to page edges (see pic). Front free endpaper, front free flyleaf, engraved frontispiece and tissue guard laid in, not attached to spine.

It was founded in 1839[1] by Hodgson & Graves, print publishers, 6 Pall Mall, with the title Art Union Monthly Journal (or The Art Union), the first issue of 750 copies appearing 15 February 1839. It was published in London but its readership was global in reach.
