"Narrative of a Second Voyage in Search of a North-West Passage and a Residence in the Arctic Regions During the Years 1829–1833, Including the Reports of Commander, Now Captain, James Clark Ross," c. 1836. This important nineteenth-century account concerns exploration of the Arctic regions and the search for the elusive Northwest Passage, with reports relating to the expeditions of James Clark Ross.
Octavo (5.375" x 8.375"). London: Orlando Hodgson, c. 1836. The first Hodgson quarto edition, probably pirated from the first edition of 1835. Later twentieth-century binding in quarter brown leather with leather tips over marbled boards and matching marbled endpapers. Six-compartment spine with two black labels. All edges retain mid-nineteenth-century marbling. Bookbinder's stamp to the final endpaper. Minimal rubbing to the lower board edges, slight foxing throughout, and a stain affecting pages 80–83.
A fascinating antiquarian volume for collectors of Arctic exploration, Northwest Passage history, polar expeditions, and nineteenth-century exploration literature.
