"The Early History of Tasmania: The Geographical Era, 1642–1804" by R. W. Giblin, First Edition, published in London by Methuen & Co. in 1928. This historical study examines the geographical exploration and early European knowledge of Tasmania from the seventeenth century through the beginning of the nineteenth century. Illustrated with maps and charts, it is a valuable addition to a collection of Australian history, Pacific exploration, and historical geography.

Octavo (5.5" x 8.75"), 341 pages. Bound in full red cloth with black lettering to the upper cover and spine. Illustrated with three illustrations and twelve maps and charts, ten of which are folding. The original dust jacket is lacking.

Condition shows minor edgewear, bumped and lightly rubbed corners, and light sun-fading to the spine. The boards are lightly rubbed, with a few small, thin scuffs. Intermittent foxing appears throughout the text, heavier at the front and rear of the text block. A small orange Australian bookseller’s sticker is affixed to the foot of the front pastedown.

An appealing first edition for collectors of Tasmanian and Australian history, early exploration, and antique cartography.
