From Wiki: Greece, a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.

Also from Wiki: Pausanias (/pɔːˈseɪniəs/ paw-SAY-nee-əs; Greek: Παυσανίας; c. 110 – c. 180) was a Greek traveler and geographer of the second century AD. He is famous for his Description of Greece (Ἑλλάδος Περιήγησις, Hēlládos Periḗgēsis), a lengthy work that describes ancient Greece from his firsthand observations. Description of Greece provides crucial information for making links between classical literature and modern archaeology. Not much is known about Pausanias apart from what historians can piece together from his own writing. However, it is mostly certain that he was born c. 110 AD into a Greek family and was probably a native of Lydia in Asia Minor. From c. 150 until his death in 180, Pausanias travelled through the mainland of Greece, writing about various monuments, sacred spaces, and significant geographical sites along the way. In writing Description of Greece, Pausanias sought to put together a lasting written account of "all things Greek", or panta ta hellenika.

From notes: Pausanias was a geographer and traveler. Its history of Greece is a transcendent source for architecture, local history, religious customs, and topography. The work is emphatically called Pausanias' “Editio Optima”. Elegantly written and useful, it contains the most valuable parts of the previous editions; it has the advantage of being divided into chapters, with prefixed plots to each book, and notes by Xylander and Sylburgius accompanying each page. It contains the foreword to the Hanover and Frankfurt editions. ‘Sir James Frazer’
