"Invalid Cookery: A Manual of Recipes for the Preparation of Food for the Sick and Convalescent; To Which is Added A Chapter of Practical Suggestions for The Sick-Room" by Mrs. Julia A. Pye, published in Chicago and edited by Mrs. Eliza A. Pitkin in 1880. This first edition offers a fascinating glimpse into Victorian domestic life and historical approaches to preparing food for those who were ill or recovering. An appealing collectible for enthusiasts of antique cookbooks, culinary history, and nineteenth-century household manuals.

Octavo (5" x 7.75"), 127 pages. Bound in full brown pebbled cloth over beveled boards, with black stamped rules at the head and foot of the covers, gilt lettering to the upper board, and dark brown endpapers. Several unused ruled pages are bound in at the rear.

Condition shows edgewear, lightly bumped and rubbed corners, and ruffled spine ends with tiny closed tears. The boards are lightly soiled. The front gutter is split with mesh visible, and the rear gutter is beginning to separate. Red-marker manuscript appears in the upper corner of the first free endpaper. No foxing was observed, though the pages are evenly toned with age.

A distinctive nineteenth-century culinary and domestic reference for collectors of Victorian cookbooks and the history of food preparation and convalescent care.
