Matching marbled endpapers and all page edges. Extensive water stain on the lower 3" of the cover and affecting some of the 10 attractive chromolithograph plates & 22 text engravings. Hand colored folding map in the back (see pic).

James D. Forbes (1809–1868) was a Scottish physicist and early glaciologist who wrote Norway and Its Glaciers Visited in 1851, a richly illustrated scientific and travel account that helped establish the study of glaciers as a rigorous field and documented his observations of Norwegian ice-fields with unprecedented precision.
