"Terre Napoleon: A History of French Explorations and Projects in Australia" by Ernest Scott, Second Edition, published in London by Methuen & Co. in 1911. This historical study examines French voyages of exploration and territorial ambitions in Australia, offering insight into the European expeditions and competing projects that shaped early knowledge of the continent. An interesting volume for collectors of Australian history, French exploration, and Napoleonic-era maritime history.

Octavo (5.5" x 8.75"), 295 pages plus 30 pages of publisher’s catalogue. Bound in full red cloth with gilt lettering and a gilt rule framing the upper cover, along with gilt lettering to the spine. Illustrated with ten plates featuring photographs, charts, and maps, including two folding plates, as called for. The original dust jacket is lacking.

Condition shows edgewear, bumped and rubbed corners, and ruffled spine ends with tiny closed tears. Intermittent spots of foxing appear on a few pages, mostly at the front and rear of the text. A large Napoleonic bookplate belonging to Leslie Henri Kuehner of Memphis, Tennessee, appears on the front pastedown, and a previous owner’s signature in old ink is neatly written on the first free endpaper.

A collectible illustrated history for readers and researchers interested in French exploration, early Australian geography, and the history of European expeditions in the Pacific region.
