Elizabeth; or, The Exiles of Siberia : translated From French by Madame Cottin. Madam Cottin. 1826. Chriswick: Thomas Tegg. 24mo.(5" x 5.375") 125, (2) pp. Full mottled brown leather with fancy gilt rule framing boards. Spine with gilt rule bands, gilt lettering to chipped red leather title block in second compartment, small faded gilt devices centered to all others. All edges lightly speckled red. Edgewear, corners bumped and rubbed through to boards with small loss to tips. Head and foot of spine chipped with loss, more so to foot with .75" x .5" loss to foot of spine leather. Boards lightly scuffed and rubbed in places, upper board separating from spine at head down 2". Early gift inscription in old ink in three lines to first free endpaper, dated 1838. Engraved title page dated 1827. Pages 19-30 separating from spine, attached near foot, almost laid in. Rear free endpaper with tears, chipping towards spine edge, most likely lacking last free flyleaf. Foxing and toning to engraved title page, intermittent spots of foxing to first and last few leaves, all others look clean and neat. An interesting little book.
