"Types of Naval Officers, Drawn from The History of the British Navy, With Some Account of The Conditions of Naval Warfare at the beginning of the Eighteenth Century, and of its subsequent development during the Sail Period" by Captain A. T. Mahan, published in Boston by Little, Brown, and Company in 1901. This historical work explores naval leadership and the character and roles of officers in British naval history, making it an appealing addition to a collection of maritime, military, and naval history.

Octavo (5.75" x 8.75"), 500 pages plus advertisements. Bound in full blue cloth with a gilt bust centered on the upper cover, gilt lettering to the spine, gilt top edge, and black endpapers. Illustrated with seven plates and plans. The original dust jacket is lacking.

Condition shows edgewear, lightly rubbed corners and boards, and a ruffled spine head and foot with tiny closed tears. The rear hinge is starting, with mesh visible, and the first free flyleaf and title page are separating from the spine toward the head. Includes the bookplate of American author and historian F. Van Wyck Mason on the first free endpaper, with transfer to the front pastedown.

A collectible early twentieth-century naval history volume with an interesting association to historian F. Van Wyck Mason.
